Crop selection and project planning

Should the crop or the greenhouse be chosen first?

Always the crop and its market. Crop programme determines light requirement, gutter height, climate strategy, irrigation design and internal logistics. Choosing a structure first almost always leads to expensive retrofits.

Can one greenhouse grow multiple crops?

Technically yes, but climate optima differ. Combining crops works best when compartments have independent climate control, or when crops share similar temperature and humidity requirements such as tomato and cucumber.

How reliable are published yield ranges?

Published ranges assume good genetics, trained labour and functioning climate control. In project modelling we apply a ramp-up curve for the first two cycles, because first-year yields are typically 15 to 30 percent below mature performance.
